Presents To Be Had At St Andrews

December 18th, 2008 | Category: Championship

The Royals are starting to push clear of fourth-placed Burnley and the signs are looking good that Steve Coppell’s side will be playing Premier League football next season. It was a scrappy game against Norwich last weekend, but the team is really grinding out results at the moment and that is every bit as important as beating sides comfortably.

A Win Is Coppell’s Wish At Oakwell

December 06th, 2008 | Category: Championship, Soccer

The Royals bounced back against Coventry on Monday night with a morale-boosting 3-1 win after going a goal behind. They have fallen behind in their last three games now, but have shown the right character to come back, especially after the Southampton defeat. Steve Coppell’s side travel up to Yorkshire to take on Barnsley on Saturday; a side they have not played since 1998.

A Battle Royal

November 12th, 2008 | Category: Championship, Soccer

It was an assured performance from Steve Coppell’s Reading last weekend, but they have a very difficult task on Saturday when they face promotion rivals Sheffield United at Bramall Lane. Kevin Blackwell’s side have won six of their last nine and, along with the Royals and Swansea, they are one of only three sides to remain unbeaten at home this season.

Doyle To Prove He’s King Of The Royals

November 06th, 2008 | Category: Championship, Soccer

Reading were fantastic against Bristol City last time out. After two games without scoring, the Royals’ strikers really showed what they were made of and the City defence couldn’t live with their attacking flair.

The key area now is building on that victory, especially with title rivals Birmingham City losing at home on Monday night. Steve Coppell will be pleased his side have another home game on Saturday, against Derby County, a side the Royals have a strong record against.

Goal Drought At Ashton Gate

October 30th, 2008 | Category: Championship, Soccer

The 100% home record is gone, but as Steve Coppell said, “0-0 at home against QPR isn’t the end of the world”. Coppell wasn’t too disheartened by Tuesday night’s defeat at Burnley either, as his side sit in fourth place on a healthy 24 points, only seven behind first placed Wolves.

Royals To Keep Up 100% Record

October 03rd, 2008 | Category: Championship, Soccer

It’s been a very good week for Reading. Firstly, they demolished Swansea 4-0 at home last Saturday and then ended their away-day hoodoo by thrashing leaders Wolves 3-0 at Molineux.

Only Royals Can Eat Swans

September 27th, 2008 | Category: Championship, Soccer

Last Saturday’s game at Watford has been all over the press this week thanks to the ‘ghost goal’. The Royals managed to pick up a point at Vicarage Road and they were unlucky to get knocked out of the Carling Cup on penalties at Stoke on Tuesday night.

Reading have been untouchable at home so far this season, winning all four games by at least a two-goal margin. Saturday’s opponents are newly promoted Swansea City, who have had a steady start to the campaign and sit comfortably in mid-table.

They will be buoyed by their 1-0 victory over arch-rivals Cardiff on Tuesday in the Carling Cup, but that could have taken a lot out of them. They have also lost two of their three league games on the road, whilst the Royals have a strong record against the Swans, winning four and drawing one of the last five contests.

James Henry was the best player on Tuesday night and has now scored four goals in three games, so if he is given a starting berth he could be worth backing to be the first goalscorer.

The Swans have only scored once away all season, so it may be worth looking at a clean sheet bet also.
